Lär patienten att inhalera rätt. Förskriv spacer till sprayanvändare

Det är viktigt att följa upp patientens inhalationsteknik vid varje återbesök. Utbildning av personal och aktiv undervisning till patienterna gör att det går att minska andelen fel.

Studier med olika inhalatorer, såväl pulverinhalatorer som sprayer, har visat att det är vanligt att göra fel vid användning av inhalatorn. Detta gäller såväl patienter som personal som i sitt arbete visar patienter hur inhalatorerna ska användas. Utbildning av personal och aktiv undervisning till patienterna gör att det går att minska andelen fel.

Att kunna inhalera rätt är viktigt för att få bästa möjliga effekt av inhalerade astma- och KOL-läkemedel. Felaktig användning av inhalatorer vid astma har kopplats till bristande astmakontroll. Vid KOL har felaktig inhalatoranvändning associerats till ökad risk för exacerbationer.
Bristande inhalationsteknik bidrar dessutom till kostnaderna vid såväl astma som KOL.

Spacer bör förskrivas som hjälpmedel vid spraybehandling, eftersom användning av spray med spacer minskar behovet av koordination och kan möjliggöra att läkemedlet inhaleras med tidalandning.
