Dutasteride is used for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [1-2], to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention (AUR) and in surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH. Dutasteride is contraindicated in women [1]. In the US, dutasteride may potentially also be used for male pattern baldness (i.e., androgenetic alopecia) [2].
