"After administration of a single oral dose of 400 mg carbamazepine, 72% is excreted in the urine and 28% in the faeces. In the urine, about 2% of the dose is recovered as unchanged drug and about 1% as the pharmacologically active 10,11-epoxide metabolite."
Hazard
Persistence: Carbamazepine is not readily biodegradable, as no degradation was observed after 28 days in an OECD 301E test. In environmental simulation studies (OECD 308), the half-life in the total system was measured at 328 days. Based on these results, carbamazepine is classified as potentially persistent in the environment, since its half-life exceeds 120 days.
Bioaccumulation: Log Kow = 1.51–1.58 (OECD107).
Toxicity: There are data for 3 trophic levels, most sensitive crustacean NOEC 25 microg/L.
